Collaborators - Past & Present

Þomas Webb
(1997-present, founding member)
Thomas is the demented charlatan mastermind behind The Happy Buttons – the essence, the mythos, the symbols, and the beat-oriented, yet syntholiciously flowing musical stylings. One little-known fact about him is that he is not a human. He is a nixsquatch - a rare (only 4 in the world) combination of sasquatch and nix. So, don't call him a madman. He is, in fact, a madnixsquatch.

Thomas fluently speaks Japanese and currently works as a programmer and consultant. He is also studying biotech and plans on inventing many things that previously existed only in cartoons.

Myke Mitchell
(2005-present)
Myke is the living manifestation of Mr. Horse from Ren & Stimpy. He has been friends with Thomas since he first entered high school. Though both were good friends, talked about music a lot and had mutual interest in gothdom, cross-dressing, music, and Mexican girls, their musical paths only seldom collided (resulting in the as-yet lost recording, "Die, Psychic Vampire!"). That is, until now! Myke has at long last joined the cult of the Happy Demon and crunches out melodic, danceable riffs and catchy lyrics.

He currently is studying sound engineering, and hopes to revolutionize recording techniques – or get eaten by SPDIF data stream monsters trying.

Daniel and Thomas met while both were socially awkward teenagers, likely during a game of Magic: The Gathering or Vampire: The Masquerade. Trading mp3s with each other via ICQ, IRC and Napster, their mutual interest in horror, the strange, the 80s, Japanese culture and, above all, music (especially 80s music and goth legends such as Christian Death and Joy Division), led them to begin discussing band ideas. This quickly led to practices in Thomas' room, and a tattered notebook the two discreetly handed to each other throughout the course of the day at school, full of Dan's melancholy yet disturbingly literate lyrics and Thomas' enigmatic lyrics.

Today, Dan writes and lectures on social issues and the moral foundations of anarcho-communism. He is also studying to be a museum curator. He played an important role in shaping The Happy Buttons' lyrical style and earlier days' death rock sound.

Guitar virtuoso Costas has been playing with Thomas' father in their garage band since both were in their young teens in their band, Hot Sand. Costas has worked with many big-name acts and sound producers during his music career. He currently is the operations manager for LCR Music, a label that specializes in Latin American styles of music.

Costas has contributed greatly to The Happy Buttons' sound with his masterful guitar playing and, drawing on his Hellenic heritage, bazzouki melodies.

Thomas and Kæla, in the years before The Happy Buttons' formation, were a brother-sister duo covering Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin songs under various names such as "Enoki Overgrowth" and "Oracle Opiate". Their simple drums and bass guitar style was a predecessor to acts such as The White Stripes.

Kæla became interested in joining The Happy Buttons when she became romantically involved with Dan. This romance was short-lived, but her whimsical, goofy and absurdist contributions made a lasting impact on The Happy Buttons' stage presence and mythology. Today, she runs her own clothing company, producing her own clothing line based on authentic vintage reproduction clothing.
