FAQ

What does your name mean? Are you a porn band or something?
our name refers to an experiment that was done on a lab rat where electrodes were put in to the pleasure center of the subject's brain and an activating button made available to the subject. The subject will push this button, this happy button repeatedly in favor of food, sex, or anything else. see Wirehead Hedonism for the implications.

What is the lead singer's real name? Corey Lovejoy sounds made up!
Corey is fabricated; his real given name is Daniel. Lovejoy is his real last name, believe it or not.

I want to help promote The Happy Buttons! What can I do?

What's with the swastikas/fylfots?
Well, as you may know, the fylfot is a very ancient symbol, separately appearing in Native American cultures and among the proto-Indo-Europeans (the latter of whom spreading the symbol far and wide). Today, the symbol is still a common decorative element in India and is also associated with Buddhism in the far east. We are in no way associated with any fascist or racist philosophies and believe the fylfot/swastika to be a beautiful symbol that deserves more than being associated with Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. To that end, we encourage any cultural, traditional or religious use of the symbol.

Is Thomas gay? If not, why the hell does everyone call him pinkboi?!
pinkboi is a cross between two Gainsborough paintings, blue boy and pinkie (actually, Pinkie is a Thomas Lawrence painting -ed). They are both typical 19th century portraits, but they are at The Huntington Library (visit there if you live in California!). It's a fusion of feminine and masculine, though there's nothing mysterious or dual-natured about pinkboi. It just sounds cool and it pisses people off, he says.

Blue Boy + Pinkie = pinkboi

Hand Fetish? What does that mean?
Hand Fetish Records/Hand Fetish Productions is the team behind promoting the Happy Buttons (including this web site). Hand Fetish was actually one of the original names we considered before settling on The Happy Buttons.

You guys suck! You just sound weird for the sake of sounding weird! Why don't you just sound like Metallica or something ?
HAHAHAHAfreakingHA! Yeah, we make no claims to be super avant-garde or anything like that, but we do try to be at least original enough for it to be worth anyone's time to give us a listen. this would simply not be the case if we were a copy band. If you don't dig our crazy tunes, then go listen to your elevator music.

What do the runes mean?
You should be able to tell that they spell The Happy Buttons. They are Thorn Hægl and Beorc. Happy and Button are both words not found in Old English. The closest equivalent to Happy would be glæd (ancestor of glad). The first rune made its way into the Roman alphabet and can be typed on Windows machines with ALT+0222 (uppercase, or ALT+0254, lowercase) or on any OS using an Icelandic keyboard layout.

My daughter bought your CD. I caught her having a $atanic orgy with her teddy bears! I kill you!
Happens all the time. Shoudda read the warning label "may cause your daughter to have a $atanic orgy with teddy bears", tsk-tsk.

What's with your crazy mascot?
He is Herr Shah den Freud, the happy demon. He was conceived as a cool design to put on our drum head, but he was cute, so we decided to keep him.
